About Dr. Johnson

Dr. Tara Johnson is a proud native Houstonian. She openly

acknowledges Houston for giving her a fond appreciation

for exposure to many different cultures, food, and music.

As a young child, her parents instilled in her the importance of serving others. She spent countless hours volunteering with local organizations in the area. Her gift of serving others was a natural fit for a career in the healthcare field.

Early on, Dr. Johnson began to understand the importance of having a healthy smile. Her passion for dentistry was birth out of the pain of seeing a close loved one suffer from self-esteem issues attributed to having periodontal disease.

Dr. Johnson decided to pursue her undergraduate education at Texas Southern University in her hometown of Houston, TX on a full academic scholarship. She graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. She then decided to attend the alma mater of her mentor and childhood pediatric dentist, Meharry Medical College, ultimately graduating in 2011. After graduation she decided to furter her education by continuing her dental training in a general practice residency program at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Systems. The rigorous training prepared her by practicing on hundreds of adult patients who were severely immuno-compromised, children and patients with special needs.

Background in Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Johnson decided after 8 years of working as a general dentist in both public health and corporate sectors it was time to pursue her dream of being a pediatric dentist.

In 2019 she returned to school to complete an advanced certificate in pediatric dentistry with NYU Langone-Nashville. Her love for children married with dentistry has provided her with an enlightened sense of fulfillment and purpose in the field of dentistry.

Personal Life and Passion For Serving

Dr. Johnson loves being of service to all mankind. Her proudest volunteering memory was being on a 10-day missions trip to Kenya, Africa. She and her sister, being the dentists in charge, led a team of dental volunteers while providing dental treatment and preventive services to residents within the Masai Mara region.

Dr. Johnson enjoys spending quality time with her husband (Alvin), sons (Alvin and Anderson) and family. Her hobbies include traveling, rest and relaxation, skiing, and volunteering.
